Let me tell you a bit about my journey here... My helper Gizmo (the cute little guy hard at work in the picture) and I passionately believe that we all have much to contribute beyond our initial careers and, we will always be Too Young to Retire® from life.
I spent many years "doing what I was supposed to do." I started college, got a two-year degree, got married, had kids, worked, went back to school, got a four-year degree, worked, went back to school again for a master's degree...and worked in the corporate world for more than 20 years.
BUT something was missing. My positions were challenging; I learned so much and accomplished a lot. I made many good friends, but I always felt like I was meant to do more.
Was this really my purpose? I wasn't living my best life. I wasn't passionate about what I was doing. I didn't love my life. And...it felt too much like work!
So, I started a journey to find out what was missing...
No right or wrong way!
I don't think there is any right or wrong way to get where you are today--or to get where you want to be. Nor do I think there is ever a "right time" to start the journey to the life you want to live!
But, we all have a story...or several...that make us who we are and what we are.
We are asked , "What do you want to do when you "grow up?" several times during our lives. When we're young everyone wants to know; when you're in high school teachers, counselors and parents want to know; when we graduate (high school or college) again everyone wants to know; and when we choose to retire from years of working, we should ask ourselves the same question.
The short version of my story is that I didn't take an easy or quick way here...it was more of a long, winding road.
I took an early retirement from my corporate job (scary stuff).
Then what? Well, I looked at all the knowledge and experience I'd gained over the years and went through the process of trying to figure out how I could make not only my life but others' lives better.
And finally I really thought about: What was my passion...my purpose...my plan? What d id I want to do when I grew up?
I found it...well, I found Howard and Marika Stone. I trained with Howard, learned, got certified, and founded "Too Young To Retire-MN." What an amazing, rewarding opportunity. For several years, I loved every minute of it. Helping others find their purpose...their passion. Helping them figure our what they wanted to do when they grew up.
Then...life happened. New changes...an organ transplant and a move to Arizona.
It was time to reinvent this amazing opportunity. New situation...different time and place...new tools. I wanted to make this opportunity even better. I wanted to make it possible for people from all over the country...even the world...to find their passions and their best lives...no matter what their situation or age.
And, I wanted to make it as easy as possible for anyone who wanted to start their personal journey to do so. I wanted to make this doable for everyone who wanted to start living their lives on their terms...so, I did.
And, it doesn't feel like work!
I think I found just the right formula!
And, I love it!
There is more to my adventure than work. (But my work doesn't feel like work!) But, I have a few other passions...animals, and in particular, rescue animals. I want to save them all. My helper, Gizmo, "rescued me" 15 years ago. And that was one of the best decisions I've ever made; he rescues me over and over each day.
My three grandkids...two in MN and one in CO.
Tegan, Jaydon and Hailey. Love 'em!
I also "bleed purple." I have been an avid Minnesota Vikings fan since I was very young. And, yes, I'm a Twins fan as well. Although I live in Arizona, I love my Minnesota sports--a Minnesota girl at heart. Everyone says I'm a bigger "sports nut" than my husband. Well...that just might be true!
My faith is also very important to me and I am active in my church. Besides singing in the choir, I'm the president of our congregation and write, edit, and publish our monthly newsletter.
Never a dull moment!
So, that's my journey...
